Talk About Innovation

A place where the people behind Innovate Texas, including our leadership, board members and advisory board members, will share insights into innovation and commercialization in Texas.

Welcome, Texas Innovators

In the current economic state of the nation, innovation has never been more important. As globalization makes all industries more competitive and new developments come quicker than ever, making it tougher to maintain market share and retain top talent, capitalizing and commercializing the best of innovation here in Texas is essential to maintaining the state’s economic strength.

After months of introductions, meetings and planning upon planning…basically how any successful business or organization gets started, this month, we officially launched Innovate Texas, an organization that will be a catalyst for economic development and job creation in the state.

Of course, Texas is already well known for its business-friendly environment and research (universities regularly rank amongst the leaders in expenditures), from studying cancer and developing defense technologies to building computers and developing energy for the entire country. By linking the vast amount of innovation already taking place with the resources needed for commercialization, we believe we’ll be a key player in driving the future economic well being of Texas.

This is not an entirely new initiative for us. Some of you know we operated as the Texas Technology Commercialization Foundation beginning in May 2008. However, Innovate Texas is a name that better reflects our deep interest in fostering a sense of community amongst innovators and, for lack of a nonprofit phrase, we are open for business.

We have worked tirelessly for months to put the necessary foundation and framework in place to fulfill Innovate Texas’ mission to connect the state’s wealth of intellectual capital with financial capital to create abundant economic opportunity and strengthen our universities here in Texas. We’re also in the process of putting together a great team of board members and advisory board members to guide and counsel us as well.

Along with reading more about our mission and focus, you can become even more familiar with Innovate Texas’ communities of focus, key industry sectors and additional background information by visiting the About Us page.

We are extremely excited about this new initiative and look forward to establishing strong relationships with academics, business leaders, innovators, investors, government leaders, and the other key leaders and organizations as we move forward.

Lastly, I want to send a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the great many people who have helped us get Innovate Texas off the ground. This organization is a real tribute to the great people here in Texas.

Please stay tuned.

Interest in a DFW Committee

Is there interest in building a Dallas area group to organize and collaborate for new opportunities in the market?

Interest in a DFW Committee

Brian- There is a great deal of interest in the greater DFW area, and other areas across the state, to collaborate and explore new ideas. The greater DFW area has a tremendous amount of resources for entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial activities.

Innovate Texas is in the process of establishing online communities to help facilitate collaboration in various communities around the state.

In the meantime, feel free to contact me if you need help getting started.
