The Clean Technology & Sustainable Industries Organization Teams with Innovate Texas Foundation to Foster Research, Commercialization and Economic Development

Innovate Texas Foundation, building upon recruitment efforts of Austin Energy and the Austin Chamber of Commerce, has successfully completed the headquarters relocation of the Clean Technology & Sustainable Industries Organization’s (“CTSI”) from Massachusetts to Texas. Innovate Texas Foundation, a non-profit organization created to enhance Texas’ competitiveness in bringing promising technologies to the marketplace, will host CTSI, the international leader in clean technology and sustainable industry development, in their Austin headquarters.

"I am very pleased to welcome CTSI to Texas,” said Texas Governor Perry. “Their move from Massachusetts is yet another sign of our state's leadership position in developing clean technologies. Businesses searching for low taxes, predictable regulations and a skilled workforce know they can count on Texas to provide the business climate they need to grow and succeed. I look forward to the opportunities CTSI will bring to our state.”

The international nonprofit industry organization which also has presences in Geneva, Washington, D.C., San Francisco and Detroit, Mich., selected Austin for its new office to be in proximity to key member organizations and to take advantage of the many resources available in Texas, including advanced utilities such as Austin Energy, leading research universities, and growing clean tech business and investment communities.

“Innovate Texas Foundation is very excited to work with CTSI to foster important research, development and industrialization of clean and sustainable technologies,” said David Nance, Executive Chairman of the Foundation. “Texas is the global leader in energy and is well positioned to become the world leader in renewable energy sources and clean technologies. “CTSI will bring key experience, relationships and insights to innovators, investors and developers in this field”.

“Working with Innovate Texas Foundation will allow us to leverage combined resources to strategically connect Texas industry, entrepreneurs and universities to global opportunities and networks,” said Matthew Laudon, Ph.D., President and Founding Chairman of CTSI. “We share a common goal of creating economic growth by accelerating scientific and technology innovation into the marketplace. We believe our focus on advancing the commercialization of clean technologies and sustainable industry practices have both economic and environmental implications for Texas.”

CTSI’s core purpose is to provide a cross industry community to promote clean technology development, profitable commercialization and global integration of sustainable industry practices, enabling the transformation of businesses, governments and society towards a more sustainable global economy.

CTSI founding member Austin Energy, a leader in smart grid and energy management technologies is enthusiastic about the expansion of clean-tech assets in the region. "Austin Energy is committed to delivering short and long-term energy solutions to keep the state and community competitive,” said general manager Roger Duncan. “The co-location of CTSI with Innovate Texas Foundation brings together international and regional resources to further build our national green leadership."

Among others welcoming CTSI to Texas is Isaac Barchas, Director of the Austin Technology Incubator at The University of Texas IC2 Institute, who noted, “The move illustrates the growth of the clean tech ecosystem in Austin to one of national prominence as the clean tech capital.”

Innovate Texas Foundation’s technological expertise coupled with CTSI’s in-depth experience in the clean technology sector will complement the efforts of universities, regional development organizations and chambers of commerce, along with innovators and investors, to build on Texas’ efforts to move toward a more sustainable and technology-based economy that will deliver long-term growth.
