InnovateTexas is Attending the TechBA 2010 Expo, with Maps (07.08.10)

At a time when many states are slashing budgets and cutting costs simply to stay alive, Texas' budget for FY2009 is operating on a comfortable $2B surplus. Combined with its $9.1B rainy day fund, Texas is positioned to weather what remains of this economic downturn with very little muss and fuss. Texas' sunny economic outlook is largely the result of Texas' strong tradition of fiscal responsibility and its many incentive programs that attract businesses from other places to Texas, especially during such hard times.

Institute to Develop Nation’s Wind and Renewable Energy Resources

AUSTIN, TEXAS – May 24, 2010 – Innovate Texas Foundation joined the Texas Tech University System and The Wind Alliance to announce today the formation of the National Institute for Renewable Energy (NIRE), an independent public-private collaboration that will work to solve key scientific and technology challenges facing the wind power industry. The announcement was made during the Windpower 2010 Conference in Dallas, sponsored by the American Wind Energy Association.

NIRE will operate for-profit business components that will design, construct and operate research wind farms. These farms will generate power to be sold in the commercial marketplace, with a portion of the revenue going to fund a non-profit research center. NIRE will also provide services to industry partners and offer an industry consortium, which will be managed by The Wind Alliance. Start-up funding for NIRE has been derived from many of the economic development organizations in West Texas.

University-driven Technology Entrepreneurship is Key for State (05.21.10)

Almost instinctively, we understand that there is a connection between MIT and the vibrant Route 128 Corridor around Boston, or between Stanford and the innovative and entrepreneurial dynamo of Silicon Valley.

But is the connection just about having a prestigious tier one school placed in the midst of an attractive metropolitan area? Or is there something more that's needed to provide the critical mass necessary for self-sustaining economic development?

Finding Resources in Texas Just Got Easier, Thanks to New Mapping Tools (05.12.10)

Despite previous success, no reasonably experienced entrepreneur will tell you that it is easy to start a business whose primary mission is to provide technology or services to paying customers profitably. Stated another way, starting a business is hard. It is often difficult to find what you need to address ongoing technology or business concerns, and when you discover the solution, you often needed it last week.

At the Innovate Texas Foundation, our mission is to foster innovation and commercialization in the state of Texas. Entrepreneurship is an important component of this process, and it is one that pervades all stages of business creation and operation. Entrepreneurship is largely about being resourceful and creative with the tools available to you at any given time.

The Innovate Texas Foundation wants to make finding what you need to start a business easier. Organizations exist in all areas of the state of Texas to help entrepreneurs commercialize their ideas, and we are releasing a tool that maps two kinds of these resources: Regional Centers for Innovation and Commercialization (RCIC) and local Chambers of Commerce.
